Instructional Materials
Parents, students and the ES work together to choose instructional materials that meets Oregon state standards and is directly linked to the courses in the student's current Personalized Learning Plan. All instructional materials must be non-sectarian. Non-consumable materials must be returned as courses are completed, at the end of the school year, or upon withdrawal from the school.
Paying for instructional materials
Upon enrollment, students are designated an allotment of educational units (EUs) to use for instructional materials. Each educational unit (EU) is equal to one dollar. EUs can be spent on core and supplemental materials, outside activities as outlined below, campus classes, laptop computer rental, approved community classes, and school supplies that are directly linked to the courses in the student's current Personalized Learning Plan. Families may use 2/3 of their total EUs during the first semester and the remainder thereafter until early May.
At the beginning of the school year, EUs are assigned as follows:
Kindergarten: 250
1st - 6th grades: 500
7th & 8th grades: 750
High school: 1,000
Families that register after the start of the school year are assigned EUs on a prorated basis.
Instructional materials
Core materials are the textbooks, literature and trade books, workbooks, online curriculum, or a combination of one or more that are the foundation of a grade level course. Veteran homeschooling parents may already know what curriculum they want, while rookie homeschooling parents will look to their ES for guidance. Either way, your ES can explain the numerous options at Logos.
CORE before MORE. At Logos, that means the core instructional materials as described above are to be purchased with EUs before adding supplemental materials below.
Supplemental materials - must be directly linked to a course in the student's current Personalized Learning Plan.
Educational games and activities
Science kits
Math manipulatives
Logos-sponsored field trips - EUs may be used to pay for a field trip. Contact your ES for more details.
Community activities - EUs may be used to pay for activities that are directly related to a current course of study and in high school, a course that leads to a HS credit. Example: A student studying "Romeo and Juliet" in high school English can use EUs to pay for a ticket to "Romeo and Juliet" at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Contact your ES for more details.
Not allowed - Admission to museums, fees to join clubs, rental or purchase of sports equipment, camps, etc.
Parents should make all allotment funding requests through their ES based on the information above. If needed, requests may be evaluated on an individual basis by the Business Manager and/or Curriculum Director.
Refer to the Logos Curriculum Catalog for additional information and policies on ordering, educational units, return policy and more.
Using a Logos Laptop Computer
Laptop computers are available to lease monthly or for the school year. Students are also welcome to check out a laptop while they are on campus studying. Ask the receptionist for more information.
